Traceroute

Trace the path packets take to a destination host.

What is Traceroute?

Traceroute is a network diagnostic tool used to track the pathway taken by a packet on an IP network from source to destination. It records the time taken for each hop the packet makes during its route to the destination.

How it works

The traceroute command typically utilizes the Internet Control Message Protocol (ICMP) echo packets with variable Time to Live (TTL) values. The response time of each hop is calculated to guarantee accuracy.

Hosting Limitation: Due to security restrictions on many shared web hosting environments, raw socket access required for ICMP and UDP tracerouting is often disabled. If unavailable, the tool will explicitly notify you.
